Orienteering without borders…
This slogan is the basic concept of this international orienteering event. The roots of this internationally established 3-day competition date back to 2002 when the TV Fürstenfeld
organized the 1st Thermenland Open in the Fürstenfeld area. The start of this event was followed by highly acknowledged contests in 2003 and 2004 (which were officially
honored as the best orienteering event of Austria). The close
neighborhood of Hungary and Slovenia inspired us to expand the concept from 2006 onwards and to cooperate with these countries.
The contests will also serve as a national ranking event both for Austria, Hungary and Slovenia.
The events in future
The organizing team consisting of competent orienteering experts from TV Fürstenfeld, SD Severovzhod and Zalaegerszegi TC have developed the following programs according to the experiences of the last few years:
Integrating Hungarian and Slovenian spa regions.
Extending the contest including training camps, particularly interesting for participants from farther countries.
Austria, Hungary and Slovenia organize the prologue, the training camp and the 3-day event Thermenland Open every year alternately.
General objective
The events will be counted as Austrian, Hungarian and Slovenian ranking events.
World-ranking competitions during the days of the event, so it will become one of the most reputable elite events in Europe.
An extensive supporting program (cultural, relaxing, natural and social) is not only addressing elite starters but also escorts, children under 10 and seniors above 70 to come to the spa region.
Also in 2008 more than 1000 participants are expected.
